El 25º Grupo de bombardeo (25º BG) fue constituido como unidad de reconocimiento el 17 de julio de 1944 integrado en la 8º Air Force sirviendo en esta unidad hasta el final de la contienda. La unidad operó varios tipos de aparatos, entre ellos bombarderos ligeros B-25 y B-26, bombarderos pesados B-17 y B-24 así como aparatos de reconocimiento P-38 y L-5. La unidad la componían el 652º, 653º y 654º Squadrons.

Entre sus operaciones se encuentras misiones de reconocimiento sobre las aguas alrededor de las Islas Británicas y en ocasiones a las Azores para obtener datos meteorológicos; vuelos sobre el continente para la información meteorológica necesaria en las operaciones de planificación; misiones fotográficas nocturnas para detectar actividad enemiga; y misiones fotográficas y cartográficas durante el verano sobre el continente. Desde el 9 de agosto de 1944 al 23 de julio del año siguiente ocuparon la base aérea de Watton (Inglaterra)

En algunas ocasiones participaron en misiones de exploración de las áreas comprometidas en operaciones en términos meteorológicos para informar del tiempo a los bombarderos que se acercaban a sus objetivos. En las áreas bombardeadas también realizaron una evaluación visual de los ataques de los bombarderos así como misiones de contramedidas electrónicas para confundir a la Flak alemana durante los ataques. Tras el final de la guerra el 25º BG fue enviado a Estados Unidos entre julio y agosto de 1945 siendo desactivada el 8 de septiembre de ese mismo año.

The 25th Bombardment Group (25th BG) was established as the reconnaissance unit July 17, 1944 integrated into the 8th Air Force serving in this unit until the end of the war.
