Experten alemanes: Wolfgang Schellmann


Major Wolfgang Schellmann


Nació en Kassel el 2 de marzo de 1911 siendo su primer mando la 2./JG 135 desde marzo de 1935.  El 19 de diciembre de 1937 fue nombrado Staffelkapitän de la 1./J88 durante la Guerra Civil española. Durante el conflicto fue el segundo mejor experten destinado en España con 12 victorias acreditadas.

Tras regresar a Alemanaza fue asignado al I./JG 331 sirviendo en la Staff desde el 1 de abril de 1939. Al estallar la Segunda Guerra Mundial fue destinado al I./JG 77 participando con su unidad en la invasión de Polonia. Tras este servicio fue transferido a la Staff de la Luftflotte 2. Para el 15 de diciembre de ese mismo año fue nombrado Gruppenkommandeur del II./JG 2.

Su primera victoria en este nuevo conflicto la logró el 15 de mayo de 1940 cuando derribó un caza Hurricane de la RAF cerca de Couly. Al término de la campaña del Oeste ya tenía 7 victorias acreditadas en su haber. Tomó parte en la dura Batalla de Inglaterra y el 3 de septiembre de 1940 fue nombrado Kommodore del JG 2 alcanzando 10 victorias el día 18 de ese mismo mes. El 22 de octubre ocupó ese mismo cargo pero en el JG 27, que quedaba como guardián del Canal de la Mancha. En la primavera de 1941 lideró al JG 27 durante la invasión de Yugoslavia y Grecia.

Su victoria número 24 (incluyendo las logradas en la Guerra Civil española) la obtuvo al derribar un Hurricane de la RAF en Grecia. Tras la breve campaña de los Balcanes tomó parte en la invasión de Rusia el 22 de junio de 1941. Fue este mismo día cuando su Bf 109 E-7 (W.Nr. 4189) “<< +” sufrió un ataque “taran” de un I-16 soviético cerca de Grodno. Schellmann logró saltar de su agonizante aparato pero se desconoce su destino final  aunque lo más probable es que fuese ejecutado tras su captura por la NKVD.

His first win in this new conflict was achieved by May 15, 1940 when shot down a RAF Hurricane fighter of near Couly. At the end of the campaign in the west and had 7 victories credited to his credit. He took part in the Battle of Britain hard and September 3, 1940 was named the JG 2 Kommodore reaching 10 wins on the 18th of that month. On October 22 he held the same position but in JG 27, was left as guardian of the English Channel. In the spring of 1941 led to JG 27 during the invasion of Yugoslavia and Greece.

His victory number 24 (including those achieved in the Spanish Civil War) got it to shoot down a Hurricane from the RAF in Greece. After the brief campaign in the Balkans took part in the invasion of Russia on June 22, 1941. It was the same day when his Bf 109 E-7 (W.Nr. 4189) "<< +" was attacked "taran" a Soviet I-16 near Grodno. Schellmann managed to jump from his dying unit but the final destination is unknown but most likely it was executed after his capture by the NKVD.
