SdKfz 231

Schwerer Panzerspähwagen 
Sd.Kfz 231 (6 rad)



Se trata del primer vehículo blindado pesado de reconocimiento y estaba basado en el chasis de un camión 6x4. El Sd.Kfz 231 estaba armado con un cañón automático KwK 30 L/55 de 20 mm con 200 disparos y una ametralladora MG 13 de 7´92 mm en montaje coaxial con una dotación de 1.500 proyectiles.

Abriendo el camino a los vehículos dotados con dos puestos de conducción poseía un segundo puesto en la parte trasera del vehículo que facilitaba la evasión tras el contacto con el enemigo. El blindaje oscilaba entre los 5 y los 14´5 mm de espesor. La dotación la componían comandante, artillero, conductor y radio operador/conductor trasero.



El vehículo fue introducido en servicio en 1932 y comenzó a ser reemplazado en sus funciones en 1937 cuando la Wehrmacht comenzó con la serie de vehículos pesados de ocho ruedas. A pesar de ser reemplazado continuó siendo usado por los Aufklärungs (unidades de reconocimiento) durante la invasión de Polonia, Francia y la invasión de Rusia en el verano de 1941. Tras ser retirado continuó sirviendo como vehículo de seguridad en la retaguardia y entrenamiento de nuevas tripulaciones.

El conjunto pesaba 6 toneladas y era capaz de desarrollar una velocidad punta de 65 Km/h en carretera y 40 Km/h campo a través. Con un depósito de 110 litros de combustible era capaz de recorrer 250 Km. Su planta motriz consistía en un motor Daimler-Benz M09 de 12 cilindros y 60-70 hp, un Büssing-NAG G de 8 cilindros y 70 hp. o un Magirus S88 de 60-70 hp; todos ellos de gasolina.
